Our Team
Karylsa L. Torres Gómez, MD
Board-Certified Neurologist
Board-Certified in Clinical Neurophysiology
Dr. Karylsa L. Torres Gómez is a board-certified neurologist and board-certified clinical neurophysiologist dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centered neurological care. She completed her medical school education and neurology residency training in Puerto Rico, where she developed a strong foundation in the diagnosis and management of complex neurological conditions.
She pursued advanced fellowship training in Clinical Neurophysiology at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, with specialized expertise in epilepsy, EEG interpretation, and neuromuscular and neurophysiologic disorders.
Dr. Torres Gómez has been practicing neurology in Weslaco, Texas since 2019, serving the Rio Grande Valley community with a commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care. She works closely with patients experiencing epilepsy, migraines, dementia, myasthenia gravis, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological conditions, focusing on individualized treatment plans and long-term quality of life.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Torres Gómez collaborates with the Epilepsy Foundation of Central and South Texas by hosting epilepsy clinics within her practice. Through this partnership, she provides specialized care to underserved patients and supports the Foundation’s mission to improve access to neurological services in the community.
She is also the author of Navigating the Challenges of Caring for a Loved One with Dementia, a practical guide designed to support families and caregivers facing the complexities of dementia care.
Dr. Torres Gómez is bilingual and fluent in both English and Spanish, allowing her to effectively serve a diverse patient population and foster clear, compassionate communication.
Sarah B. Souffrant, RN, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, CEN
Sarah B. Souffrant is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with extensive clinical and leadership experience spanning emergency medicine, trauma care, hospital medicine, primary care, and clinical informatics. She brings decades of hands-on patient care experience and a strong background in quality, safety, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Ms. Souffrant earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Philippines, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Texas at Arlington. She later completed her Doctorate of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington, where her doctoral research focused on quality improvement and antibiotic stewardship in hospitalized patients.
Throughout her career, Ms. Souffrant has held multiple leadership roles, including Emergency Department Nurse Manager, Trauma Coordinator, Director of Quality Management, and Director of Clinical Informatics. She has practiced in Level I trauma centers and community hospitals and has been actively involved in the development of stroke, TIA, sepsis, and trauma initiatives.
As a Nurse Practitioner, Ms. Souffrant has provided care in hospitalist medicine, nocturnist coverage, and primary care settings. In her role at our neurology clinic, she works closely with the neurologist to evaluate, treat, and follow patients with a wide range of neurological conditions, ensuring continuity of care and patient-centered management.
Ms. Souffrant is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and holds multiple advanced certifications, including Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN). She is recognized for her commitment to clinical excellence, education, and patient advocacy, and she has received numerous awards for professionalism and dedication to nursing practice.
